When your project demands a low-cost, high-performance system, consider our Generic Translucent™ skylight system. Major makes this exciting product to meet your project's budget and performance specs, so you're sure there's a system to fit your needs. Major builds Generic Translucent™ systems with the same Ultimate Series™ technology found in our standard system for worry-free long-term performance.

Generic Translucent™ offers the practical energy-saving benefits of classic translucent glazing with an economical cost. Typical applications for this product include single slope and most ridge skylights. Owners save money with Generic Translucent™ because individual glazing panels are cost reduced, framing requirements are lessened by using existing structural support, and installation is typically faster than classic translucent sandwich panels. Major manufactures a full line of translucent fiberglass insulated sandwich panel systems, all of which are constructed from rugged aluminum and natural light-transmitting materials.

As with our standrad skylights, Generic Translucent™ systems feature a visually attractive aluminum grid core in several popular patterns, giving panels a refined look while maintaining exceptional strength. Standard panel thickness is 2 3/4" with R-values up to 6.0. Thinner panels (1 1/2") may be available for some applications. Generic Translucent™ panels are typically sized 8'-0" long and 58" wide, and are used as horizontal panels or roofing shingles. This orientation requires less framing and often rests directly on an aluminum tube or steel substructure. Major ships projects with installation instructions and a standard one-year warranty. Options include five standard colors, extended warranties, clear polycarbonate panels, and matching glass end walls.

Generic Translucent Design Considerations and Specs

Design Considerations

  1. Standard skylight designs are based on a 40 PSF live load with a 20 PSF wind load.
  2. Maximum grid size is 12"x24" in both four-foot wide and five-foot wide panels.
  3. Standard configuration Generic Translucent™ products are available in several grid patterns, colors, and insulating values (certain combinations may be subject to material availability).
  4. Major designs Generic Translucent™ panels with a standard span of 8'-0". Wider spans may be available, depending on your supporting structure.
  5. Larger spans require smaller grid configurations. Consult the factory for your specific job.
  6. Systems with upslope dimensions greater than 58" require multiple panels and intermediate purlins. Rafters are sized according to specific job requirements; avoid designs with large clear spans.
