SS Credit 7.2 - Landscape and Exterior Design to Reduce Heat Islands, Roof Surfaces
General Description
Reduce heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat. Use roofing materials having a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) 3 equal to or greater than the following values for a minimum of 75% of the roof surface. (Low-Sloped Roof ≤ 2:12 78, Steep-Sloped Roof > 2:12 29)
Guardian 275®
Guardian 275® translucent panel systems offer exceptional light management. Exterior fiberglass face sheet pigment and internal insulation batting in the panel structure offer significant reflectivity and high emissivity. Optional colors for the aluminum structural framing are blended to promote "cool" surface temperatures as well. It may be possible to obtain SS Credit 7.2 by incorporating Major Industries translucent glazing panels into the building's natural daylighting requirements.
Auburn® Skylights
Auburn® polycarbonate multi-wall and acrylic skylights can be configured to provide significant reflectivity and high emissivity. Optional colors for the aluminum structural framing are blended to promote "cool" surface temperatures as well. It may be possible to obtain SS Credit 7.2 by incorporating select Major Industries’ Auburn® skylights into the building's natural daylighting requirements.
