Case Study - NMB Bank

In Amsterdam, Nederlandsche Middenstandsbank (NMB) needed a new corporate headquarters. Rather than a single tower, the 540,000 sf structure is broken up into 10 towers. Daylighting is a central design feature. No desk is more than 23 feet from a window, and louvers redirect light to evenly illuminate offices. Their old building used 420,000 BTU per square foot per year of primary energy; the new building uses less than 36,000 BTU per square foot. The special design features paid for themselves in less than three months. In addition, absenteeism is 15% lower than in the old building.
